Published February 12, 2016

Art History Associate Professor Michael D. Carrasco has been awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship (2016 – 2017) to support his book From the Stone Painter’s Brush, an ethnopoetic analysis of classic period Maya narratives. This volume will draw from Dr. Carrasco’s more than fifteen years of experience translating Maya texts and his study of modern Mayan languages to present the richness and complexity of Maya narratives. In it he highlights the poetic and literary nature of Classic Maya writing and introduces an unprecedented number of texts to a broad audience, ranging from aficionados to scholars in a variety of disciplines.
