Martha Blackwelder (MA 1999)

Martha is the founder of Martha Blackwelder Fine Art, LLC, a private consulting practice that provides advisory and appraisal services to museums and private clients in the field of Asian art.   From 2007 to 2013, she was the Executive Director of the Asia Society Texas Center in Houston where she grew the small $700,000 organization to a $4 million organization in 5 years. Under Blackwelder’s leadership, the Asia Society Texas Center opened its new 38,000 square foot, $48.4 million building to the public in April 2012. She co-authored At the Edge of the Sky: Asian Art in the Collection of the San Antonio Museum of Art, published in 2006.
