ARH Banner, Bachelor of Arts

For the BA in Art History, students must complete 48 credit hours of coursework for the B.A. in Art History, including 39 in art history and 9 in studio art, with a minimum grade of C in all major coursework. The foundation courses (ARH 2050 and 2051) provide a broad view of major artists and monuments from around the world and should be taken as early as possible. A seminar (ARH 4800) is required of all majors. Majors are also required to take Communication for Art and Design (SPC 2067) and Information Technology for Art Historians (ARH 2814). Majors must also satisfy all other university requirements for the B.A., including a foreign-language course at the 2000-level. Only foreign language coursework with a C- or better will count toward graduation.

Internship – 3 hours

Majors may apply up to one 3-hour museum internship (ARH 4941) toward the upper-level requirements for the Bachelor of Arts in Art History (Note: this option is not available to students minoring in Museum Studies, for whom a 6-hour internship is required). The student signs up with an Art History professor of record who assigns a letter grade for the internship based on a term paper, journal and the museum supervisor’s evaluation. For more information, forms and registration, see Internships.
