On Thursday, October 19, the FSU Friends of Art History hosted a “Curated Conversation” with esteemed alumnus Patrick M. Rowe (PhD ’89), whose collection of printed works by the English graphic artist Aubrey Beardsley is now on display at the FSU Museum of Fine Arts.
In a spirited conversation led by Preston McLane (PhD ’06), Dr. Rowe described his approach to art collecting, exhibition curating, and catalogue development to an audience of Art, Art History, and Interior Design students. Using examples of mass-market printmaking in Europe and Japan, he provided practical advice about how to evaluate and conserve antique works on paper. The students were then invited on a guided tour of Dr. Rowe’s most recent curatorial project, Aubrey Beardsley: The Aesthetics of Decadence and the Line Block Print, which will be on display at the Museum of Fine Arts through November 11.
