Event Details
This fall, The Department of Art History will host a series of lectures on Wednesday evenings.
Dr. Jack Freiberg presents “Looking Up in the Churches of Rome,” the first event in our Fall Lecture Series this Wednesday, October 2, at 4 pm in WJB G40. Art is everywhere in the churches of Rome, even on the ceiling. Coffered wooden ceilings, carved, painted, and overlaid with gold, were introduced in the 15th century and quickly became a major feature of church interiors in the Eternal City. Join us as we explore the intellectual meaning behind these visually stunning architectural embellishments.
