On February 22, 2016 from 7 – 8pm in Fine Arts Building (FAB) Room 249, Professor Juan A. Martinez will be giving a lecture on the era of Modern Cuban art. This lecture is a part of Cuban Art in the Twentieth Century, an upcoming exhibition presented by The Museum of Fine Arts. The Cuban Art exhibition catalogue contains an essay by Professor Martinez and will be available during the event.
Professor Juan A. Martinez, who received his PhD in Art History at Florida State University in 1992, taught in the Department of Art and Art History at Florida International University in Miami. Professor Martinez is an art historian who teaches courses in European and Cuban modern art. He is the author of Cuban Art & National Identity: The Vanguardia Painters 1927-1950, Carlos Enriquez: The Painter of Cuban Ballads, and Maria Brito. He has also published numerous book chapters and essays in exhibition catalogues. He is currently working on a monograph of one of the pioneers of Cuban modern painting, Fidelio Ponce de Leon.
