Art History doctoral candidates Rachel Carlisle, Alexandra Challenger, and Lacy Gillette will represent Florida State University at this year’s Renaissance Society of America (RSA) annual meeting. RSA Virtual 2021, consisting of both traditional panels and new session formats, convenes online April 13-15 and 20-22, 2021.
Rachel Carlisle and Lacy Gillette co-organized the session “Fresh Ink: New Perspectives on Early Modern Print.” The session highlights the current research of three emerging scholars with the aim of providing a dedicated space for doctoral candidates and recent PhDs to share their work on early modern print. A roundtable discussion focusing on pre-circulated video presentations will be held live on Tuesday, April 20.
Rachel Carlisle will also present “Peutinger, Breu, and the Prayer Book of Maximilian I: the Case of Festina Lente” during a panel titled “The Whole is Greater than the Sum of its Parts: Image and/or Word” on Tuesday, April 13. Her presentation at the annual meeting is supported by an RSA Virtual 2021 Grant.
PhD candidate Alexandra Challenger will present “Learning through Practice: The Use of Instrumental Prints in Peter Apian’s Instrument Buch” during the seminar session “Mapping the Page in Early Modern Print” on Thursday, April 15.
The Renaissance Society of America sponsors publications, fellowships, and awards and produces the Renaissance Quarterly journal. Its annual meeting brings together scholars from North America and around the world, representing a wide variety of academic disciplines. RSA’s members include college and university faculty and students; staff at museums, libraries, and other cultural institutions; and others interested in Renaissance studies.
