Tenley Bick Authors Chapter on Mimmo Paladino in New Volume on European Migration in Art

Dr. Tenley Bick has published a book chapter in the new volume Migrants Shaping Europe: Past and Present: Multilingual Literatures, Arts, and Cultures (Manchester University Press), edited by Dr. Helen Solterer and Dr. Vincent Joos. Her essay, “Porta di Lampedusa, Porta d’Europa: Contemporary Monumentality, Entropy, and Migration at the Gateway to Europe,” discusses a work by Italian artist Mimmo Paladino made in memory of migrants who lost their lives during attempted cross-Mediterranean migration, in relation to histories of Italian colonialism and its legacies in racism and xenophobia today. Dr. Bick will attend a book launch at Duke University, convened by Dr. Solterer, in which scholars will discuss the contributions of the volume to discourses on cultural studies, migration studies, and related fields.
