Alumna Stephanie Shaw Appointed Registrar & Collections Specialist at Daytona Beach Museum of Arts & Sciences

College of Fine Arts

Alumna Stephanie Shaw recently accepted the position of Registrar & Collections Specialist at the Museum of Arts and Sciences (MOAS) in Daytona Beach.

Stephanie received her MA in Art History at FSU in 2017 and started work at the Southeast Museum of Photography at Daytona State College. There she was responsible for planning and installing exhibitions as well as care of museum materials. In 2021, she took a new position at the Hunt Library at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where her responsibilities were more focused in collections management and preservation. As the Cataloging and Metadata Technician, she created and updated records for all materials in the library’s circulating and special collections and collaborated on an inventory of the University’s archives. One of her favorite aspects of the job was repairing books, learning bookbinding processes, and studying paper conservation techniques.

In her new role at the Museum of Arts and Sciences, Shaw oversees the care and management of over 30,000 objects in the Museum’s permanent collection. She maintains collections records and loan contracts and keeps the collections database up to date. She is also responsible for the preservation of the collections, including proper housing, environmental monitoring, and preventive conservation practices.  Stephanie writes:

The benefits of getting my MA at FSU were all-encompassing. The art history department created an environment that sharpened my skills as an academic, encouraged my growth as a professional, and challenged me in ways that irrevocably changed me for the better. The knowledge, perspectives, and camaraderie I gained from staff, faculty, and colleagues continue to be instrumental in my career. As a native of Daytona Beach, my first museum experience was at MOAS  so I feel I have come full circle. The opportunity to work here is not only a privilege but a dream come true.”
