Doctoral student Emily White has been awarded a summer research fellowship with a supportive grant at the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Reynolds-Finley Historical Library. This library contains a substantial repository of materials relating to the history of medicine, science, and health care. The library currently holds 20,000 rare books, manuscripts, journals, and pamphlets ranging from the 1300s to the mid-1900s. This collection included medieval manuscripts, incunabula, and many of the world’s most important medical works. Emily, a first-year doctoral student specializing in European art (c. 1400-1600), will further her investigations of early modern rhetoric and the dissemination of vernacular scientific knowledge.
