Students in Dr. Jones’s Class Gain Hands-on Experience with Early Christian and Byzantine Artifacts

Published November 5, 2021

Students in Dr. Lynn Jones’s course on Early Christian and Byzantine Art have the rare opportunity to work on a wide range of objects dating from the 7th-15th centuries.  The works are on loan to us from Kenyon College’s  Blick-Harris Study Collection in the Department of Art History. The loan was facilitated by Dr. Brad Hostetler, assistant professor at Kenyon and an alumnus of the FSU Department of Art History. Kenyon’s generosity provided each student in the course unusual proximity to historical objects, including coins, relics, icons, oil lamps, textiles, and jewelry. As a result, students were able to gain valuable experience in research, close observation, and documentation.
