The 5th Annual Museum & Cultural Heritage Studies Forum will be held on Thursday, April 2, at 4pm in room G40 WJB. This year’s Forum will feature a presentation by Joanna Robotham, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Tampa Museum of Art.
Joanna Robotham joined the staff of the Tampa Museum of Art as the Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art in 2016. She previously held the Neubauer Family Foundation Assistant Curator position at the Jewish Museum in New York City, where she worked for over 10 years. Joanna recently organized the survey exhibition of Japanese-American ceramicist Jun Kaneko in conjunction with the museum’s acquisition of one of the artist’s monumental sculptures. She organized the solo exhibitions Suchitra Mattai: Bodies and Souls (2024) and Pepe Mar: Myth and Magic (2023).

Past original curatorial projects at the Tampa Museum of Art include Frank Stella: What You See (2020), an intimate survey of the artist’s printmaking oeuvre; the exhibition series Ordinary/Extraordinary: Assemblage in Three Acts: Jean-Michel Basquiat, Purvis Young, and Haitian Vodou Flags (2019); Vapor and Vibration: The Art of Larry Bell and Jesús Rafael Soto (2018); and Mernet Larsen: Getting Measured, 1957-2017 (2017), a retrospective of Larsen’s paintings.
The presentation will be followed by a conversation with Dr. Mora J. Beauchamp-Byrd, Director of the MCHS Program and Associate Professor of Art History. A Q & A session will follow the interview, and light refreshments will be served.
