Congratulations to Dr. Erika Loic, who has been awarded tenure and promoted to Associate Professor. As of Fall 2026, she is also serving as the Department of Art History’s Director of Undergraduate Studies.
Dr. Loic joined the department in 2020 and has been teaching courses on medieval art and the history of illustration. She was a recent recipient of a Publication Subvention Grant from the New Foundation for Art History as well as a Research and Publication Grant from the International Center of Medieval Art and the Kress Foundation. These grants will support her 2027 monograph, The Ripoll Bibles: Medieval Visions of the Ruled Page and the Ruled Life (forthcoming from Pennsylvania State University Press).
Regarding the upcoming years, Dr. Loic shares the following:
“I’m currently writing a second book focusing on Iberian manuscripts—a new project on biblical monsters for monks and monarchs—and I’m already benefiting from the profoundly generative conversations I have each week with the students in my Medieval Monstrosity seminar. I am overjoyed to be a member of this scholarly community and to have so many opportunities to share my art-historical passions with those around me. Students and colleagues have supported and encouraged me every step of the way, and I look forward to the years ahead at FSU.”
