Join us November 6 & 7 for two events with visiting scholar Larry Silver, Farquhar Professor of Art History, emeritus, at the University of Pennsylvania.
On Wednesday, November 6, Dr. Silver will present “Princes and Prince Bishops: Elite Patrons in Early Sixteenth-Century Germany” at 4:30pm in WJB 2041.
On Thursday, November 7, Dr. Silver will host a discussion with Stephanie Leitch of her new book, Early Modern Print Media and the Art of Observation: Training the Literate Eye (Cambridge, 2024). The conversation begins at 4:30pm in WJB G40.
Both events are free and open to the public.

Dr. Larry Silver specializes in painting and graphics of Northern Europe, particularly Germany and the Netherlands, during the era of Renaissance and Reformation. He previously taught at Berkeley and Northwestern and has served as President of the College Art Association and the Historians of Netherlandish Art. His book publications include studies of Massys, Bosch, Dürer, Bruegel, Rembrandt; and Rubens and Velasquez at the court of Spain. Other books examine the visual culture of Emperor Maximilian I, Europe’s View of the World 1500-1700, and Peasant Scenes and Landscapes in the Antwerp art market. He has curated exhibitions featuring professional engravers in Antwerp and Haarlem, and monumental prints in the era of Titian and Dürer. His most recent book (Brill, 2023) is titled Art and Dis-Illusion in the Long Sixteenth Century.
