Art History doctoral candidate Ileana Olmos has joined the John G. Riley Center and Museum as Curator and Education Director, overseeing exhibitions, educational programs, and community outreach. The Riley Museum, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, explores African American histories in Tallahassee from the pre-Antebellum era to the present. Exhibitions and events highlight John G. Riley’s legacy as an educator, civil rights advocate, and themes surrounding African American historical experiences in Tallahassee.
The museum fosters community engagement through oral histories, outreach initiatives, publications, and local government partnerships. Ileana Olmos brings expertise as a PhD candidate researching Black identity and African diasporas in Panama, focusing on Atlantic Congo ritual practices. She holds a master’s in historic preservation and is a trained archaeological conservator.
