Doctoral candidate Stephanie Bender has joined the faculty at Chipola State College in Marianna, Florida. Stephanie, a native of North Florida, is delighted to have accepted the position as the full-time Humanities instructor in the Literature and Language Department and to be able to work in the community she so loves. “The school is small and close-knit,” she writes, “and the president, Dr. Sarah Clemmons, has really made it a high-ranking and important institution in this rural region.”
Stephanie is in the process of completing her dissertation, “Constructions of the Angestellter: Photographs of the Salaried Class in the Weimar Republic” under the direction of Dr. Adam Jolles, and looks forward to defending in the Spring of 2019. In early November she will present a paper on Ringl + Pit, a commercial studio in Weimar Berlin run by two women photographers, at the South Atlantic Modern Language Association (SAMLA) Conference, on the panel Women of the Avant-Garde and Political Dissent: Resisting Power from the Margins. She is also writing an essay on German-American photographer Gesche Würfel for the catalogue of an upcoming exhibition curated by fellow doctoral candidate Amy Bowman-McElhone at the Pensacola Museum of Art, University of West Florida.
