Capitol Museum Seeks OPS Visitor Services Clerk

The Florida Historic Capitol Museum seeks an OPS Visitor Services Clerk to manage the front desk of the Museum, providing historical information and customer service to visitors and working with volunteers. This position reports to the Visitor Services & Event Manager.

 

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Staffs Visitor Services Desk and greets visitors
  • Performs opening and closing procedures
  • Learns program scripts and provides Museum tours, group introductions, and programming
  • Answers general questions about Tallahassee and Florida History
  • Receives telephone calls, provides answers to routine questions, and routes, if necessary, to appropriate staff person
  • Operates copier and computer with such accuracy as can be acquired on the job
  • Researches records and traces documents
  • May type reports, letters, memoranda, and other correspondence
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Florida history or willingness and ability to learn
  • Knowledge of educational practices or willingness and ability to learn
  • Ability to use the internet for basic research
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the demands of the public
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques
  • Ability to sort data alphabetically, numerically, and categorically
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to utilize a computer
  • Ability to organize files, records, and/or other materials
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A high school diploma or its equivalent or equivalent combination of training and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College-level coursework in history, museum studies, or a related field, or professional experience in a related position.
  • Public Speaking skills
  • Good oral and listening communication skills
  • Customer service skillsSALARY:Hourly rate of pay is $15 per hour. Employee will be required to work between 12 and 24 hours per week, depending upon the staffing needs of the Visitor Services Desk and the Historic Capitol Museum’s program schedule, including weekend days and special event rentals.APPLICATION DEADLINE:
