The University of California, Riverside’s Art History Graduate Student Association invites submissions for the 12th AHGSA conference, Decay into Chaos. The conference will take place on May 20th, 2023, at UCR ARTS, Barbara and Art Culver Center of the Arts in Riverside.
The Decay into Chaos theme strives to encourage the exploration of decay as a site of artistic production. Under the contexts of material corrosion, bodily degradation, and cultural and social change, chaos erodes and defies the stability of singular understandings of time, place, and worldview. We seek to engage with how the arts act as a device for thinkers and artists to explore and understand their social and historical contexts of change and how these realities of decay provide possibilities for generative rethinking.
We hope that graduate students in the humanities (including art history, visual studies, archaeology, literature, history, and more) will consider submitting an abstract and CV by sending it to ahgsa.ucr@gmail.com. The deadline to submit an abstract is April 1st, 2023.
