Congratulations to Winbury Essay Award Winner Quentin Clark

The Art History Association is pleased to announce that Quentin Clark has been selected by their peers as the 2023 winner of the I. N. Winbury Award. The award, which includes a $300 stipend for book purchases, is presented annually to one MA student and one PhD student. Academic papers are submitted for consideration to the graduate student organization, which arranges for a panel of doctoral students to judge the MA papers and a panel of MA students to judge the doctoral papers. (Because there were only two submissions from PhDs this year, per the rules there will be no award granted for a PhD for 2023.)

The PhD student committee selected Quentin’s paper, “Symbolizing Reverence and Imperial Identity: The Elephant on the epi ton barbaron Seal” as the strongest, most organized, and most well-supported. Congratulations to Quentin!
