In early November, doctoral candidate Stephanie Bender presented a paper on Ringl + Pit, a commercial studio in Weimar Berlin run by two women photographers, at the South Atlantic Modern Language Association (SAMLA) Conference, on the panel Women of the Avant-Garde and Political Dissent: Resisting Power from the Margins. Stephanie’s talk, focused on a 1931 advertisement for Maratti Artificial Silk, was adapted from a chapter of her dissertation in progress, “Constructions of the Angestellter: Photographs of the Salaried Class in the Weimar Republic,” under the direction of Dr. Adam Jolles.
Stephanie is the Humanities instructor in the Literature and Language Department at Chipola State College.
