In January, 2022, Dr. Rachel S. Fesperman (PhD ’21) joins the Art Department faculty at Guilford Technical College in Jamestown, NC as professor of art history. “I am delighted to join such a vigorously growing program with an emphasis on student success and futures in the arts,” Fesperman writes.
“I am proud to begin teaching and mentoring GTCC students and look forward to joining a faculty with a strong reputation for excellence in teaching,” she continues. Rachel is also thrilled to put her skills as a global contemporary art historian to use in a department filled with practicing studio artists and future art historians: “Both my research and teaching heavily favor process, material, and technique. There’s no better way to demonstrate the importance of these vital aspects of visual culture than through working with practicing artists in and out of the classroom.”
Rachel is the fifth full-time faculty member to join GTCC’s Art Department since 2016. She looks forward to instructing several sections of one of her favorite courses, “Art History Survey II” and a course on women, gender, and art in her first semester.
