FSU Museum of Fine Arts presents ‘Intertwined: Labor and Technology in Contemporary Textile Art’

The Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts is pleased to open “Intertwined: Labor and Technology in Contemporary Textile Art,” a new exhibition co-curated by alumnus Keidra Daniels Navaroli (MA Art History 2007) and Annie Booth, MoFA’s curatorial assistant and visitor engagement coordinator.

“The opportunity to co-curate Intertwined with FSU, my alma mater, has truly been an honor. This exhibition celebrates the collaborative, interdisciplinary spirit of a fundamental artform,” said Daniels Navaroli. “Visitors will engage with works by artists from across North America and the Caribbean who demonstrate the breadth and depth of contemporary practice.”
This exhibition features a wide variety of textile art, including weaving, embroidery, and quilting through animation, film, prints, sculpture, photography and mixed-media work. ‘Intertwined’ brings together the work of Tawny Chatmon, Jeffrey Gibson, Fabiola Jean-Louis, Ahree Lee, Kate Nartker, Yvonne Osei, Aaron Rothman, Carrie Sieh, and Shaheer Zazai to explore themes of labor and agency across media.
“From weavings and embroidery to photography and animation, ‘Intertwined’ addresses innovation and exploration in contemporary fiber arts,” said Booth. “We are excited to share new perspectives and dynamic conversations in the field.”
‘Intertwined’ will be on view from August 31-December 16th, 2023, with an opening reception Thursday, September 14th, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.
This fall, the Museum will host artist talks, weaving workshops, and other interactive opportunities for visitors to learn and play.
